WASHINGTON — Pinsly Railroad Co. will acquire 36-mile Alabama short line Three Notch Railway from Genesee & Wyoming.
The Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad will purchase the track and assume Three Notch’s lease arrangements with CSX.
Three Notch Railway has operated the trackage since 2011. “However, the condition of the track deteriorated over time, and no rail service has been provided to shippers on the Line since November of 2024. Upon the effective date of this Notice, GAR intends to upgrade the track and restore rail service to multiple shippers on the Line,” Pinsly said in a regulatory filing this week.
Pinsly is seeking to have the transaction exempt from Surface Transportation Board review, as is common with short line acquisitions. Pinsly and G&W aim to have the transaction close by Oct. 15.
The shortline consists of two line segments, the 33-mile Georgiana Line and the 2.64-mile Andalusia Line. The railroad’s interchange with CSX is at Georgiana, Ala.
Four shippers are located on the line.
Pinsly currently operates seven short lines.
Hopefully this is a trend. There are two G&W lines that interchange with Pinsly’s Florida Gulf & Atlantic.
