LONG BEACH, Calif. — The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have extended Pacific Harbor Line’s contract to provide rail service to the two ports for one year, to Dec. 31, 2026, the ports have announced.

The extension is to give the ports more time to complete their Request for Proposals for a new operating contract, the Port of Long Beach said in a press release.

The ports announced in May that they had put the contract out to bid [see “Contract for short line service at ports …,” Trains.com, May 22, 2025]. Pacific Harbor Line, an Anacostia Rail Holdings railroad, has operated the 19 route-miles and 96 track-miles at the two ports since 1998, the last time the contract was up for bid. It moves approximately 40,000 carloads per year.

Proposals from prospective service providers were due on July 28.
