NEW YORK — The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the New York & Atlantic Railway, the union has announced.

The two-year extension of the current contract calls for a $1 per hour pay increase for all pay grades effective June 1, 2025, as well as raises totaling 8% through the end of 2028. Workers would also receive a $10,000 retention payment contingent on the NY&A’s right to continue operating on the Long Island Rail Road through at least May 11, 2030.  Ratification ballots are due from union members on Aug. 6.

The NY&A provides freight service on 270 route-miles of the LIRR system, and has done so since 1997, handling 32,000 carloads annually. The railroad is one of six making up Anacostia Rail Holdings.
