KENVIL, N.J. — The non-profit organization behind the annual Operation Toy Train project has announced the donation of a boxcar to support Toys for Tots collections in New Jersey, as well as the detailed 2025 schedule for Operation Toy Train.
TOYX Inc. has received a boxcar from Genesee & Wyoming’s Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway, which will make its debut in Operation Toy Train service Dec. 6-7 on the Dover & Delaware River and Dover & Rockaway River railroads. Operation Toy Train collects donated toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation.
“We were amazed by the incredible generosity of our communities last year,” Carolyn Hoffman, director of toy collections at TOYX Inc., said in a press release. “For the first time, we had more toys than we could physically fit on the train. Thanks to AGR’s tremendous gift, we’ll have the space we need to keep growing and keep delivering holiday magic to families across Morris and Warren Counties.”
Tom Ciuba, vice president of communcations for Genesee & Wyoming, said, ““We’re proud to support TOYX and Operation Toy Train in their mission to spread joy during the holidays. Donating this boxcar is our way of helping them continue to grow and serve their local communities.”
Norfolk Southern and short line company Chesapeake & Delaware will move the freight car from Alabama to New Jersey at no cost to TOYX. “The cooperation between multiple railroads to move this car is a perfect example of how the rail industry comes together to support communities,” Hoffman said.
Operation Toy Train had previously announced operations this holiday season in five states, including new routes in New York and Pennsylvania [see “Operation Toy Train announces …,” Trains.com, July 7, 2025]. Dates are now set for those toy-collecting trips, which begin Nov. 15 and conclude Dec. 14. The schedule and list of stops is available here.
Operation Toy Train has collected more than 380,000 toys through partnerships with railroads, community groups, and volunteers since its founding in 2009. More information is available at the Operation Toy Train website.
