WENDELL, Mass. — Eight cars of an intermodal train operated by the Berkshire & Eastern Railroad derailed today (Feb. 11), the Greenfield Recorder reports. No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were involved; a Genesee & Wyoming spokesman told WWLP-TV that the train was carrying a mix of commodities.
Wendell Police Sgt. Steven Gould told the newspaper the westbound train derailed about 3:45 p.m. The derailed train struck a power transformer near the tracks but did not appear to cause “any significant outages.”
Genesee & Wyoming’s Berkshire & Eastern is the operator of the trackage of Pan Am Southern, the joint CSX-Norfolk Southern operation. Wendell is just east of Millers Falls, Mass., where the railroad interchanges with the New England Central.
