BNSF Railway will open a pint-sized intermodal terminal in Oklahoma City in November to serve Hobby Lobby Stores.

The 42-acre facility will streamline the craft retailer’s supply chain and allow loaded containers to move directly from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to its network of distribution centers in Oklahoma City, the companies said today.

“Expanding into this new rail market is a great example of us listening to our customers’ needs and looking for ways to provide solutions that will spur shared growth opportunities across the region,” Jon Gabriel, BNSF group vice president of consumer products, said in a statement. “We are excited to offer this unique solution to Hobby Lobby, which creates a much more effective supply chain and at full potential could eliminate up to 40,000 truck moves off the highway each year.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for Hobby Lobby to partner with the BNSF,” said Hobby Lobby Chief Financial Officer Jon Cargill. “As we grow our business, more efficient movement of product will allow us to continue to offer the great value our customers have come to expect.”

Eventually, Oklahoma farmers and other businesses will have the opportunity to utilize the facility for export to the West Coast.
