Logo of the Transportation Safety Board of CanadaDORVAL, Quebec — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent an investigator to the scene of a CPKC derailment in the Montreal area on Wednesday, March 18, that disrupted commuter rail service, the agency announced.

Two cars of a CPKC freight derailed Wednesday morning at Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, shutting down Exo commuter service on a segment of its Vaudreuill-Hudson line. As of this afternoon (Thursday, March 19), service remained halted between the Vaudreuil and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue stations, the CBC reports; some trains were operating between Baie-d’Urfe and Lucien-L’Allier, but with delays of up to 15 minutes. At least four evening trains were canceled entirely.

CPKC said in a statement to the broadcaster that the two derailed cars were empty and no one was injured. The cause is under investigation.

The derailment occurred at the Dorion commuter station, about 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) from downtown Montreal.
