CSX logoJACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX said in an advisory to customers on Sunday, Feb. 1, that it was working to address issues created by a second major storm in as many weeks, this one having brought heavy snow, blizzard conditions, and flooding to portions of its network.

Norfolk Southern issued a customer alert prior to the storm, saying it was preparing equipment and scheduling crews to address impacts.

Passenger operations also felt the effects of the storm, with the Charlotte Area Transit System halting operations on Sunday and delaying the resumption of bus and Blue Line light rail service until noon today (Monday, Feb. 2), according to this update. Express buses and Gold Line streetcar service remain suspended.

North Carolina’s state-supported Piedmont service between Raleigh and Charlotte, which canceled two of four round trips on Sunday, is showing all four round trips as operating today.

The CSX advisory said its Southeast Region is most affected, with snow-related delays and road closures from Petersburg, Va., to Rocky Mount, N.C. Intermodal terminals at Charlotte and near Raleigh (CCX) were both closed but were projected to reopen today at 7:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., respectively.

Some areas near Charlotte saw 10 or more inches of snow, WCNC-TV reports.
