GUNTER, Texas — With a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, March 12, BNSF Railway and officials in the town of Gunter marked the start of work on the railroad’s new Logistics Center North Dallas, a 944-acre industrial park an hour north of Dallas.

Construction of the first phase of the approximately $500 million project is expected to take about 19 months.

“Gunter is well-placed in one of the fastest‑growing corridors in the country, and this new logistics center positions our customers to take full advantage of that momentum,” said Scot Bates, BNSF assistant vice president of economic development and real estate, in a press release. “By offering direct rail service and a ready‑to‑build site, we’re helping customers expand their supply-chain reach faster and more efficiently.”

BNSF had announced plans for the facility in mid-2023, but withdrew its initial rezoning request in the face of local opposition. The city and railroad reached an agreement to proceed with the development last year after BNSF added a buffer zone between the facility and existing homes in the town of 2,000 [see “BNSF, Texas town reach agreement …,” Trains.com, July 11, 2025].

“This groundbreaking represents an important step for Gunter’s future,” Gunter Mayor Karen Souther said Thursday. “Getting here required hard conversations, meaningful collaboration, and a commitment from everyone involved to find a path that will protect our community while creating opportunities. I am so proud of where we are today and of the partnership that helped make it possible.”
