About: Lou Sassi

Lou’s interest in scale model railroading began in December of 1958 with the purchase of his first issue of Model Railroader magazine at a local newsstand. He started writing articles for MR in the early 1980s, covering the construction of his HO scale B&M West Hoosic Division. That railroad became the cover story on the July 1988 issue of MR and GMR in 1999. From 1998 to 2014 he wrote five “How To” books for Kalmbach. In the mid 1980s, he and his wife, Cheryl, began photographing model railroads for MR and GMR throughout the continental United States and Canada. To date they have shot over 375 railroads. In 2019 Cheryl joined Lou in the building of their present On30 Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad. Cheryl handles tree construction along with joining Lou on other scenery projects. They continue to photograph railroads for Kalmbach while writing articles covering a multitude of model railroad subjects.
