Cal Fire said on social media that emergency crews responded to the incident at 5:06 p.m. No injuries were reported. A hazardous materials team also responded, but the fire department said the 40 containers involved carried non-hazardous items. The incident closed State Route 111; KESQ-TV reported there was no estimate for its reopening and has some photos of the incident on its website.

Mecca, an unincorporated community of about 8,200 on the north shore of the Salton Sea, is on UP’s Yuma Subdivision, about 15 miles east of Indio, Calif., and 90 miles east of the railroad’s West Colton Yard.
