Norfolk Southern logoLOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two locomotives and 17 cars of a Norfolk Southern train derailed today (Saturday, March 7) in Logan Township near Horseshoe Curve, WJAC-TV reports.

NS told the station that the derailment occurred about 12:03 a.m. and that no crew members were injured.

The derailment has led to the cancellation of both directions of today’s Pennsylvanian between Harrisburg, Pa., and Pittsburgh, according to the Amtrak Alerts social media site. Amtrak said bus transportation will be provided for those on the eastbound train and that, as of 8 a.m. ET, it was working to source bus transportation for westbound passengers.

All railcars involved were reported to be empty.

It is the second derailment in the same area in a month. About 65 cars were involved in an NS derailment in Logan Township on Feb. 6 [see “Norfolk Southern train derails …,” Trains.com, Feb. 6, 2026].

  1. It doesn’t look like a stringline from the photo. The manned locos were pushing westbound 11K uphill. The last 17 cars in front of the pushers derailed.

  2. Need a picture or at least a diagram of the track layout. Straight track or a curve. All empty cars sound like a stringline accident if on a curve. More info needed.

    1. Retract the above. The statement that 2 locos also derailed may change the cause. That is if they were not DPUs but lead locos,
