WASHINGTON — OmniTRAX has restored a business car built in 1959 to operation, debuting the car with a trip to Washington for the annual Railroad Day on the Hill industry event on Wednesday, March 4.
The car, christened as Savannah Sunrise by the company, was built by National Steel Car and has undergone a years-long restoration to meet Amtrak operating standards. Its debut coincides with the company’s 40th anniversary.
“The newly restored Savannah Sunrise is the flagship engagement car for OmniTRAX, designed to host company, customer, and industry events,” Sergio Sabatani, the company’s president and chief operating officer, said in a press release. The car can be moved to locations throughout the OmniTRAX network of 32 rail operations to host public officials and current and prospective customers.
Its trip to Washington is for the rail industry’s largest annual engagement with Congress, which draws hundreds of rail operators and industry associates to address legislation and policy affecting railroading.
“As we commemorate 40 years of service to communities across the country, it’s fitting to celebrate this milestone in our nation’s capital at the annual event that has shaped decades of public policy for the rail industry,” OmniTRAX CEO Colby Tanner said.

Built by National Steel Car in 1959 for Canadian National as “Canadian Sunrise.”
per wikipedia built biz. cars for CNR at Hamilton, Ontario — apparently not a major car building like Pullman, Budd, etc.
We asked OmniTRAX for details on the car’s history and got no response.
