BLUE ISLAND, Ill. — OmniTRAX has signed a long-term lease to operate a new multimodal logistics hub in the city of Blue Island, the company announced today (Feb. 26).
The 90-acre parcel is just southwest of Chicago, bordering 119th and Division streets within the Blue Island Commercial Center. Operation of the new hub will begin immediately.
“This is an extremely rare rail-served industrial site in the heart of Chicago that offers unparalleled market access,” OmniTRAX Senior Vice President Chris Tecu said in a press release. “The city of Blue Island has a proud industrial and rail heritage that makes this partnership a perfect fit. This is fantastic public-private partnership that is the model for shared success.”
OmniTRAX affiliate Chicago Rail Link, which has served Blue Island’s rail yard since 1992, will provide rail connection to all Class I railroads. The site is also near Interstate 57 and features bulk commodity rail-to-truck transloading and secure storage for trucks, trailers, and containers.
“This project will bring new jobs and new investment to the city of Blue Island,” said Mayor Fred Bilotto. “We are excited to partner with an experienced infrastructure company like OmniTRAX that brings national relationships and industry-leading service to help our community attract new partnerships that build long-term community value.”
