GEORGIANA, Ala. — Revenue freight is once again moving on a short line in southern Alabama. The Pinsly Railroad Co.’s Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad recently restored freight service on the 36-mile rail line between the CSX interchange at Georgiana and Andalusia, Ala. The first railcars in more than a year were delivered on Jan. 20, 2026.
Previously out of service, the railroad invested more than $6 million to rehabilitate the line and restore service to anchor customers Shaw Industries Group, a carpet manufacturer, and Arclin, a materials and polymers technology company. Both are located near the end of the line in Andalusia.
“This was a great opportunity to partner with Shaw, Arclin, CSX and the communities of Andalusia and Georgiana to bring customer-focused short line service back to the region,” Cassie Dull, Pinsly’s chief commercial officer, said in a press release. “These investments reflect our belief in the region’s long-term growth and our commitment to delivering safe, reliable, customer-focused rail service.”
The owner of HG Railroad Services, a rail construction contractor, said in a post on LinkedIn that his company installed more than 38,000 crossties on the railroad.
The Georgia & Andalusia Railroad began operations in late October 2025 after Pinsly purchased the property from Three Notch Railway, a Genesee & Wyoming company [see “Pinsly begins operating its ninth …,” Trains.com, Oct. 17, 2025]. G&W had operated the railroad since 2011, but the track had deteriorated to the extent that rail service stopped in November 2024.
The railroad, which has changed ownership several times during the past 30 years, originally was a Louisville & Nashville route.
