NORWOOD, Ohio — Genesee & Wyoming has marked the arrival of the semiquincentennial year of U.S. independence with the latest addition to its growing fleet of 250th anniversary locomotives. Indiana & Ohio Railway C44-9W No. 4445 joins earlier commemorative locomotives at the Arizona Eastern [see “News photo: Genesee & Wyoming’s latest …,” Trains.com], as well as the Buffalo & Pittsburgh, Kyle Railroad, and Connecticut Southern [see “News photos: Genesee & Wyoming releasing …,” Nov. 25, 2025]. At least one more unit in the series is expected.
The Indiana & Ohio, the latest G&W railroad to receive a 250th anniversary unit, operates 511 miles, including trackage rights, in its namesake states and Michigan. It was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming in 2012 as part of its purchase of RailAmerica.
