Genesee & Wyoming continues to add to its series of locomotives marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, with the latest unit also honoring railroading’s place in U.S. history. Arizona Eastern Railway No. 4028, a B40-8, features an image of the Jupiter, the diamond-stacked Central Pacific 4-4-0 that took part in the Golden Spike ceremony at Promontory Summit, Utah, on May 10, 1869. It is the fourth locomotive in the anniversary series, following units on the Buffalo & Pittsburgh, Kyle Railroad, and Connecticut Southern [see “News photos: Genesee & Wyoming releasing …,” Trains.com, Nov. 25, 2025]. The inclusion of the image of the Jupiter is particularly apt for the Arizona Eastern, since the steam locomotive ended its career working on predecessor railroad Gila Valley, Globe & Northern.
The Arizona Eastern operates a total of 195 miles in Arizona and New Mexico, with G&W-owned lines to Miami, Ariz., and Clifton, Ariz., linked by trackage rights on Union Pacific between Bowie, Ariz., and Lordsburg, N.M. Genesee & Wyoming acquired the railroad in 2011.

Very nice! I’d like to see them paint one over here in Alabama for the AGR. The one they’ve painted for veterans is beautiful.
I’m looking forward to one on the Carolina Piedmont or the South Carolina Central…
I always thought that when G&W bought RailAmerica, that they should have adopted RailAmerica’s name and paint scheme.
Still, this is beautiful. Good job, G&W!
I was always a fan of the Railtex scheme.
Note that the gorgeous AZER GE B40-8 #4028 [Ex-BNSF 563/BNSF 8603/ATSF 7413] is thirty-seven years now…
Great job G&W, great job!
