PHILADELPHIA — The ongoing inspection process for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s fleet of Silverliner IV electrical multiple-unit cars has led to a significant increase in train cancellations as of today (Nov. 10, 2025).
A SEPTA message posted on Sunday says Regional Rail service is “running with extremely limited vehicle availability” because of the inspections, and warns that with fewer cars on each train, passengers will encounter crowded trains and stops will be skipped, especially closer to Center City. It also cautions that there will be last-minute cancellations in addition to those already planned.
Six trains were canceled during today’s morning peak period: Airport Line trains No. 9441, 412 and 425, and Fox Chase Line/Chestnut Hill Line trains Nos. 802, 809, and 814. For the remainder of the day, these trains have also been canceled:
Airport Line: 9426, 9435, 9450, 9459, 436, 449, 460, 473.
Fox Chase/Chestnut Hill lines: Nos. 821, 826, 833, 838, 845, 857, 862.
The SEPTA notification also notes that some trains which normally run as expresses or limited-stop trains will stop at all stations to minimize wait times for passengers, if those trains have space available. Some will also stop at stations closer to Center City than would usually be the case to accommodate those who may have been passed by full trains.
SEPTA says Silverliner IV availability and service disruptions may worsen as inspections are completed by this Friday’s deadline, but should gradually improve through the end of the year. The FRA originally mandated an Oct. 31 deadline to complete inspections to address fire issues with the Silverliner equipment, but granted an extension to Nov. 14 when SEPTA was unable to meet the original date [see “SEPTA receives two-week extension ….,” Trains.com, Oct. 31, 2025].
