
PUEBLO, Colo. — MxV Rail’s Security and Emergency Response Training Center has announced its lineup of 2026 specialist-level and advanced courses to train first responders in dealing with surface transportation hazards.
SERTC offers resident courses of 40 to 80 hours at its Pueblo training center, featuring full-scale props and live drills; remote courses of four to 16 hours allowing groups to train on location according to their schedules; and contract courses for industry partners and sponsors, either available as remote or resident courses.
For the first time, this year’s schedule will include open enrollment for its Alternative Fuels and Flammable Incident Response and Management, or AFFIRM course. This means trainees who may not be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Training
The full list of courses is available at the SERTC website. They include specific courses deailing with tank cars and mass transit and passenger rail, as well as a variety dealing with incident management, hazardous materials, and emergency preparedness and security.
“Our 2026 catalogue represents our unwavering commitment to preparing first responders for the evolving challenges of transportation emergency response,” Lee Nelson, SERTC executive director, said in a press release. “By expanding access while maintaining our world-renowned training standards, we’re building safer, more resilient communities across the nation and around the world.”
SERTC maintains an affiliation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA’s National Training and Education Division, offering courses that provide funding to cover participants’ travel, transportation, lodging, meal, and course costs. This ensures responders and their organizations incur no expense while receiving the training.
