FRONT ROYAL, Va. — The Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen has rejected the tentative agreement reached with the National Carriers Conference Committee, the union said on Tuesday.
The rank and file voted the agreement down, with 52.89% casting “no” votes.
“Our members have spoken,” BRS President Mike Baldwin said in a statement. “The BRS remains committed to advancing members’ priorities at the bargaining table, and we will continue to work toward an agreement that honors their hard work and sacrifices.”
As with agreements the railroads reached with other unions, the BRS tentative agreement had offered 18.8% raises over five years, improvements to health and welfare benefits, and access to more vacation time earlier in workers’ careers.
Nine unions have ratified their tentative agreements with the NCCC.
