TSB investigating new CPKC derailment in British Columbia

CPKC logoJAFFRAY, British Columbia — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will investigate a CPKC derailment that occurred Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2025). near the community of Jaffray, the agency has announced.

TSB investigators will gather information at the scene and assess the occurrence, the second in the area in about a week.

The Canadian Press reports that a CPKC representative said there were no injuries from the 16-car derailment. While one of the cars was carrying an unspecified hazardous material, there were no leaks or risk to public safety.

Jaffray is on CPKC’s Cranbrook Subdivision, about 40 rail miles east of Cranbrook, and 67 miles from Crowsnest, Alberta. It is less than 13 miles from Elko, B.C., where the TSB is investigating another CPKC derailment that occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 2 [see “TSB to investigate CPKC derailment …,” Trains.com, Sept. 3, 2025].
