GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — OmniTRAX has been selected as the switching partner for Tata Chemical Soda Ash Partners’ mine in Green River, one of North America’s largest soda ash mines and home of one of the world’s largest reserves of trona ore.

The agreement, effective as of Aug. 1, will provide dedicated shipping and track service, with projected annual movement of 2.7 million tones. Soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate, is used in glass manufacturing, detergents, chemicals, and textiles.

“Tata Chemical is one of the largest soda ash producers in the world, and we are honored that they have entrusted OmniTRAX to serve their largest domestic mine,” OmniTRAX President and Chief Operating Office Sergio Sabatini said in a press release. “We look forward to bringing our industry-leading rail safety and service to Wyoming.”

Kenny Rocker, Union Pacific executive vice president-marketing and sales, said UP is “excited to work with OmniTRAX to provide safe and reliable rail service to Green River’s soda ash facilities. Union Pacific has played a pivotal role in the global economy for more than 160 years, and we are proud to do our part supporting the growing worldwide demand for Green River soda ash.”

OmniTrax, infrastructure affiliate of Colorado’s Broe Group, operates 31 railroads and serves ports, industrial parks, and leading industries.
