
WASHINGTON — U.S. weekly rail traffic remained ahead of 2024 levels, albeit slightly, for the week ending July 26, 2025.
Total rail traffic for the week was 524,279 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.1% over the same week a year ago. That included 231,029 carloads, up 0.9% compared to the corresponding week in 2024, and 283,250 containers and trailers, up 1.3%.
Through 30 weeks, U.S. rail traffic is 14,649,082 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.8% from the same period in 2024. The 6,594,604 carloads represents a 2.7% gain from the same point last year, while the 8,054,478 intermodal units are an increase of 4.8%.
North American volume for the week ending July 26, from nine reporting U.S., Canadian, and Mexican railroads, totaled 699,503 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.8% from the same week a year ago. That included 332,465 carloads, up 2%, and 367,038 intermodal units, up 3.5% compared to the same week a year ago.
North American volume through 30 weeks is 20,242,757 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.9% from 2024. That includes 4,874,958 carloads and intermodal units in Canada, an increase of 1.5%, and 718,717 carloads, containers, and trailers in Mexico, down 5.7%.
