CSX logoSOUTH FULTON, Ga. — CSX says its crew members are uninjured following a grade-crossing collision and fire this afternoon near Atlanta — contrary to local news reports that said the crew members were among four people with significant injuries.

A WAGA-TV report quoted local police as saying the collision between a train and tractor-trailer rig ejected two people from the truck and sent four people to the hospital — three with serious injuries and one in critical condition. CSX said it was told the two people from the truck were transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. WANF-TV is also now reporting two people were injured and says the two crew members were checked to see if they were OK after initially being told by police that there were four injuries.

The accident occurred at 2:24 p.m. near the intersection of Stonewall Tell Road and Westbrook Road in South Fulton, with the train pushing the truck into the neighboring community of Union City. CSX also told WANF that the train’s locomotive caught fire as a result of the collision but the fire was quickly extinguished by South Fulton firefighters.

The accident scene is about a dozen miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.

  1. Another reason to not always believe what news stations/journalists report.
WOW the train just came out of nowhere and hit the truck. Who would think that a train would be on railroad tracks.
