House subcommittee schedules hearing on rail grant programs

Logo of House Committee on Transportation and InfrastructureWASHINGTON — A House subcommittee has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday (May 6) addressing federal rail grants.

The Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will hold the hearing, “America Builds: Improving the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Rail Assistance,” at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. According to a subcommittee press release, the hearing will “examine the opportunities and challenges that grant applicants encounter in utilizing Federal Railroad Administration and other Department of Transportation rail discretionary grant programs, and the potential for reform in the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization bill.”

Scheduled to testify are:

— Matthew Dietrich, executive director of the Ohio Rail Development Commission;

— Garret Eucalitto, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, on behalf of the Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials;

— Kevin Hicks, senior vice president, TransSystems, on behalf of the National Railroad Contractors Association;

— Kristen Bevil, general counsel and chief legal officer, Pinsley Railroad Co., on behalf of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association.
