Here’s your latest installment of News Wire Recommended Reading, articles available online which Trains readers may find of interest:

— The New York Times ran a pair of articles on high-speed rail earlier this month, the first on the various projects under consideration in the U.S. (which quotes, among others, Trains correspondent Bob Johnston), and the second on Florida’s Brightline. That first article is slightly out of date given recent developments with Texas Central, but is still worthwhile. The links should make the articles available even to those without a Times subscription.

— CNN reports on the “Shinkansen Kiss,” the coupling of tJapan’s high-speed trains that has become a tourist attraction for rail enthusiasts.

— Scientific American weighs the safety of public transportation, compared to driving.
