The union and railway had announced an agreement March 20. The deal covers more than 3,000 mechanical, intermodal, facility management, and clerical positions represented by Unifor’s Local 100 and Council 4000 [see “Canadian National, Unifor reach tentative contract agreements,” Trains News Wire, March 21, 2023].

“This agreement represents a significant step forward for our CN Rail members, including important improvements in wages, benefits, and job security,” Lana Payne, Unifor national president, said in a press release. “I commend the Unifor Council 4000 and Local 100 committees for their determination and resolve. They did an outstanding job, and I congratulate them for their relentless attention to detail and their unconditional care for rail members.”

Details of the ratification vote were not released. The contract runs through Dec. 31, 2024.
