HIRAM, Ga. — Two crew members suffered minor injuries Saturday night as three locomotives and at least seven cars of a Norfolk Southern train derailed late Saturday night. The lead locomotive and seven cars overturned, while the other two locomotives remained upright.
WSB-TV reports the railroad said in a statement that the crew members “have been released from the hospital and we’re grateful their injuries were minor.” The railroad is investigating.
Some fuel spilled from the overturned locomotive, but not other hazardous materials were involved. Main Street in Hiram was likely to be closed through today as a result of the derailment, according to the city’s police department.
Hiram, in Paulding County, is 23 miles northwest of Atlanta.
