WASHINGTON — The Surface Transportation Board’s Office of Proceedings on Tuesday granted a request by all parties involved to extend board-sponsored mediation regarding Amtrak’s effort to launch Gulf Coast passenger service to Oct. 11.

The request was granted without additional comment.

Amtrak, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and the Alabama State Port Authority had filed the request on Sept. 23, saying all parties agreed “an additional 15-day period of mediation would be productive as they seek to reach an amicable resolution of this matter.”

It is the second such extension to the mediation process. The board originally ordered 30 days of mediation in a decision on June 10, 2022 [see “STB grants Amtrak access to NS, CSX data …,” Trains News Wire, June 11, 2022], and granted their request for an additional 30 days on Aug. 24 [see “STB grants request …,” News Wire, Aug. 29, 2022].
