QUEBEC CITY — Alstom will build and 34 light rail trainsets for Quebec City’s tramway project and provide maintenance for 30 years under a C$1.34 billion contract announced today (Tuesday, April 25) by the manufacturer. The contract also includes an option for construction and maintenance of five additional trainsets.
The equipment will be versions of Alstom’s Citadis light rail equipment adapted for Quebec City’s requirements, especially winter conditions. They will be developed at Alstom’s headquarters in the Americas, located in the Montreal area, and built at its La Pocatière, Que., plant. More than 3,000 of the Citadis trainsets have been sold to 70 cities in 20 countries, including Canada.
They will operate on a 19.3-kilometer (12-mile), 29-station system slated to begin construction in 2024 and scheduled to open in 2029.
