Jerry Braet, whose HO scale Granger, Denrock & Southern layout was twice featured in Model Railroader, passed away on February 19 in East Moline, Ill. He was 82 years old.

Jerry started work on his model railroad, which was inspired by John Allen’s Gorre & Daphetid, in 1973. The layout was first featured in MR in December 1981. “Farewell to the Granger, Denrock & Southern” was the cover story of the September 1992 issue. He also modeled the Rio Grande Southern in On3.

Jerry and his wife, Joan, enjoyed visiting Colorado, where they would explore and hike through the railroad ghost towns he modeled for many years. In addition to model railroading, Jerry enjoyed woodworking, circus modeling, photography, and fishing.
