John,
Check out Cody's article on modeling patched-out freight cars in the December 2008 issue.
Thanks for reading.

How did you model the palmettos? I'm planning a North Fla. based layout-ACL/SAL. I grew up in the North Fla. piney woods and I want to model the palmettos as well as the live oaks and moss. How do I go about it?
I love the level of detail in Lance's work. Brilliant! I am inspired to start my own shelf layout (CN in Sarnia, Ontario.)
MR just a suggestion for those of us who are beginning to make the switch from the transition era to the modern era. As Lance mentioned what you will find a lot of nowdays are patched out boxcars and freight cars. Cars once owned by the Class 1 guys but now doing duty for private owners or smaller regional railroads. How about Cody doing an article sometime on how to make a believable patched out freight car from something current.
Mr. Mindheim does excellent work. I have been a fan since seeing his modeling of the Monon. I'm trying to emulate his Miami area scenery work in N scale. Thanks for sharing your skills Lance.
