It's a great loco and a great passenger car set and I own both.

However, why would anyone consider owning a model GG1 in any sclae, or much less running one on a catenary-less layout? It's like having a vinatge '67 396 SS Chevy with no fuel tank.

I grew up in Metuchen, NJ and was mezmerized everytime a saw a G go screaming by at 80 MPH under wires on that 4 track main. Nothing in North American railroading even comes close (IMHO)!

At N scale the general appearance of the model was impressive. The constant low speed performance was equally so. The lighting in the video not at all impressive. Engine and car details were lacking due to camera position and lighting. Let's redo it so we can have a clearer look at details. Some times theatrical lighting fails to reveal the things we most want to see.
Best regards,
DSE

I agree with much of the commentary above. I've seen this GG-1 and train on a local NTrak layout and could hardly bear to leave the display. I've loved the big Gs since I was a toddler traveling from NY to Broad Street, Philadelphia, where one could stand in worshipful awe in front of the very deity herself. The car descriptions on the video were fine, but low lighting on a Brunswick green loco and Tuscan red cars did not serve the viewers' needs.

A marvelous idea in bringing a product review to David's layout - everything looked and appeared to run great. I agree with RC Lopez of Illinois - what is the name of that ritzy background music, who performed it - is their CD available?

I loved the review of not only the engine but of the consist too. I would have to say that was one of best product review videos that I have seen from Model Railroader. The adding of the notes at the bottom of the screen added to the review. Hope to see more if it in the future. One note when using David's layout a little more light is needed.

One of our club members has the same new Kato Broadway Limited being pulled by the Kato GG1 and it looks so good running on our layout. They just look that much better running in real life though than on a video. KUTGW.

Ok, great products as usual from Kato. My question is to who shot the video? How about some foreground light so we can see the product. Normal video quality from Kalmbach is great but this one really was bad. I couldn't see the product they were trying to highlight. I always like seeing the layout though. Wish I could rate the video instead of the product.

Great video and 'atta boy' for inserting the names of the passenger cars as they passed by. Additionaly, I've recently started modeling the Waterbury area in O scale, but I doubt I'll ever get the station and clock tower to look as realistic as David Popp did. Nice job.

Great Locos. I have 3 so far.also using the mechanism to power Milw "little Joes and my GN W1you have to add 1 extra axle to the power trucks though. I Hope Kato make more Heavy Electric. The Pantographs are a great improvement over they're japanesse models. They could be a little stiffer I think. I hope to make a P5a out of one of my old trix GG1 shells.

Nice job with the video Dana. The passenger cars look great, showing fairly close coupling characteristics that Kato should be commended for. Quality on these looks even a bit better than on their N scale model of the Super Chief that I have in my roster.

The GG-1 though seems to show a pretty large gap between the body and trailing/power trucks. Hopefully it is just with this particular sample. I would still be pleased to own this model if I was modeling this road. It is definitely a smooth runner.

Since this model seems to be more closely coupled, I am curious to know if you experienced any problems with the train coming uncoupled unexpectedly. I have had this happen several times with the Super Chief as the train makes its way along a slight downgrade and transitions to an upgrade. The uncoupling often involves one of the F7A or F7B units. I believe it is due to Kato's basic coupler design since I have never experienced the condition with Micro-Train couplers. I am wondering if Kato's couplers are different on the Broadway Limited.

Thanks for a great video.
